Restrictive Physical Intervention

At times, it is necessary to use positive handling students to support them to manage their behaviour and reduce the likelihood of harm coming to themselves or others. Although we do not require written permission from parents to use positive handling, we always ensure parents have full details of the incident.

All our staff are trained by in house Team Teach trainers and staff are trained to complete risk assessments to consider the risks posed to both students and staff when using specific restrictive physical interventions.

A copy of our Positive Handling guidance can be found here Beaumont Hill Academy Positive Handling guidance.docx This document outlines our rationale for using restrictive physical interventions and is informed by the DFE guidance for Use of Force, which can also be found here;

The Positive Handling guidance also lists items that are banned from school and outlines situations in which it may be necessary to search students.
