Norman Cornish was born in Spennymoor. He won his first drawing prize at the age four and began his working life as a miner at the age fourteen. He used oil paint. He thought the sketching club was wonderful. Norman Cornish career is well known.

I like this picture because of the textiles and detail. It reminds me of doing this in farmdale it’s a picture of two miners going in the mine, if they are hungry they will take there pack lunch in to the mine and lights to see in the dark.

Ryan: This is Farndale's podcast about our local hero Norman Cornish

Tom: Norman Cornish was born in 1919 in Spennymoor.

Shioban: He was a coal miner and worked at Dean & Chapter Colliery.

Bradley: He joined a sketching club at 16.

Michael: Norman’s working life began on Boxing Day in 1933.

Jordan: All of his life he has drawn and painted miners. In 1966 Norman left after 33 years as a coal miner.

Ruth: He used oil paint and thought the sketching club was wonderful.

Dayle: He has been painting wildlife for over fifty years.

Michael: Norman has drawn and painted about memories influenced his lifelong passion with the local social scene.

Ryan: first one-man exhibition in the 'Green Room' at the People's Theatre in Newcastle upon Tyne.
