Introduction

Forest School is an innovative educational approach to outdoor play and learning. It is an inspirational process that offers children rich opportunities to promote their well-being and confidence in a natural environment.

Forest School encourages children and young adults to explore the environment in order to develop healthy bodies, social skills and a love of the natural world, whilst learning new ways to co-operate and communicate.

Regular sessions are held in the woodland, all year round. Forest School has clear boundaries and routines allowing the children to develop a responsible attitude to risk while gaining confidence in an ever changing natural environment.

Forest school leaders can work effectively with children from mainstream, children with behavioural, emotional and learning difficulties to succeed and develop at their own speed, increasing skills and self-esteem.

The activities teach caring for, managing and understanding the woodland environment. Lessons are in line with school curriculum and outdoor learning values and can be adapted to meet all needs whether physical or educational.
