At Gurney Pease Academy homework provides pupils with opportunities to develop the skills of independent learning.
Over a period of time pupils will hopefully establish the habit of regularly devoting time to study on their own. Learning of spellings and tables, reading are regular tasks which can be undertaken at home and we would actively encourage parents to support their children when working at home.
These may include:
Reading Books and Sound Books
Playing games where children have to take turns and share, e.g. snakes and laddersReading stories to your child and talk about characters, events, what will happen next, what the characters might say, what they are thinking and how they are feeling. Singing and saying nursery rhymes with your child. Singing number rhymes with your child, pausing for them to say which number comes next.
