Modern Foreign Languages

Modern Foreign Languages

At The Education Village we highly value language learning, as a key skill for UK citizens of the 21st century.

Developing language skills will enable students to travel, explore countries and cultures, and successfully compete in global economic markets. We actively encourage students to opt for a Language at KS4. This will greatly improve student employability, as many companies have European and International branches. 60% of UK exports go to non-English speaking countries, and 20% of employers demand employees who can speak a foreign language. Whether students decide to go to Carmel College or QE Sixth Form, to further their language studies post-16, or work at home or abroad, choosing a Language GCSE will open doors, create opportunities, and make travel and leisure exciting and interesting.

We currently deliver French and Spanish. There are also extra-curricular opportunities to study German and Italian.

Our varied enrichment programme includes study visits to post-16 providers, and visits abroad to Barcelona, Paris and Germany. We participate in the Routes Into Languages programme with Northumbria, Newcastle and Durham Universities. We also have a virtual link with our partner school in Martinique, Acajou School.

We are delighted to host a COMENIUS assistant this year from Sweden, in addition to two Language Assistants from Spain and France, to work with students across The Education Village to further enhance their language skills.
