BTEC Level 2 Award in Health and Social Care

Learners have the opportunity to work with small children helping them develop their communications skills in Springfield Primary school to working with children in Beaumont Hill Special School gaining an understanding of individuals needs.

We have links to local care homes, schools and other organisations in the Health and Social care sector which help to give learners a realistic overview of life in this sector.

The course links to progressive courses ran at local colleges and also Teesside University.

Units studied are:

Unit 1: Human Lifespan Development - Exam

In this unit students will explore human growth and development across life stages and also investigate factors that affect human growth and development and how they are interrelated.

Unit 2: Health and Social Care Values – Coursework

In this unit students will explore the care values that underpin current practice in health and social care and also investigate ways of empowering individuals who use health and social care services.

Unit 3: Effective Communication in Health and Social Care – Coursework

In this unit students will investigate different forms of communication and also investigate barriers to communication in health and social care and be able to communicate effectively in health and social care.

Unit 4: Social Influences on Health and Well-being – Coursework

In this unit students will explore the effects of socialisation on the health and wellbeing of individuals and understand the influences that relationships have on the health and wellbeing of individuals. They will also investigate the effects of social factors on the health and wellbeing of individuals.

The course is graded level 2 Pass (C), Merit (B), Distinction (A) or Distinction*.
