Barclays Money Skills
Laura Richardson from Barclays visited Y10 BTEC Business class on Thursday 21st January to deliver a finance workshop.
Students investigated the lifestyles of characters such as Tania the single mum, Finley the student and Maya the university graduate. They learned how to identify illegal money lenders and avoid getting into their clutches as well as understanding safe borrowing options such as Credit Unions.
This initiative is part of a financial literacy resource developed by Trading Standards and partnered by Barclays who intend on offering the workshops to over 9000 young people in the North of England.
Stella McRae, Barclays’ Community Investment Manager said, "We all know that money management can be a very dry subject, but this resource is something that is fun and exciting and to see the way young people engage with each other is absolutely fantastic."
Lynne Coulter, who arranged the financial workshop said, "Young people are bombarded with many different credit options once they leave school and it is vital that they are equipped with the knowledge to make an informed financial choice."
