LEAGUE TABLES SHOWS DARLINGTON EDUCATION VILLAGE MAKING RAPID IMPROVEMENT
Haughton Community School - part of Darlington Education Village - is one of the country’s most improved schools the national league tables has revealled.
The school has seen the pass rate for students achieving five A* to C pass grades (including English and Maths) rise from 19% in 2008 to 42% in 2009, a 121% improvement.
Dame Dela Smith, Principal & Chief Executive of the Education Village said, "these are outstanding results which reflect the tremendous effort students and staff have made this year. In difficult economic times, it is essential young people reach their full potential at school to have the best chances of making a positive contribution to society as they enter the world of further education, training or employment. We are very proud of the results our students have achieved this year and we wish them every success in the future".
Dela also paid tribute to the hard work of the staff at school, particularly the Mathematics and English Departments for achieving such a dramatic rise in the GCSE pass rate. ‘This is the third set of results the school have achieved since moving to the Education Village in 2006 and they demonstrate very clearly the progress the school is making. The Education Village is an extremely progressive and exciting place where we aspire to ensure all our young people reach their full potential. The dedicated and committed staff in school care passionately about our students and work extremely hard to try and ensure all our young people achieve the best they can. After a few disappointing results in some areas last year, we made key new appointments to the English and Maths teams and this has contributed to the tremendous progress made by both departments this year.
