Disadvantaged Pupil Support

Disadvantaged Pupil Support

Haughton Academy planned ‘Disadvantaged’ expenditure

The ‘Disadvantaged’ fund is an allocation of additional funding provided to schools to support specific groups of children who are vulnerable to possible underachievement, including pupils who are currently entitled to free school meals (FSM), those who have had a FSM entitlement in the last 6 years (FSM Ever 6), those looked after by the local authority (LAC) and the children of armed service personnel (Service Children).

The allocation of the disadvantaged fund is as follows:-

Disadvantaged PupilsAdditional Funding Per Pupil
Pupils in Year 7 – 11 recorded as current FSM£935
Pupils in Year 7 – 11 recorded as Ever 6£935
Looked After Children (including children adopted from
care or who have left care under a Special Guardianship / Residence Order)
Service Children (eligible for past 4 years)£300

All schools are required to report on the amount of funding received and how this is being used. Once information is available, key outcomes for disadvantaged pupils will be reported upon.

For the academic year 2020/21, Haughton Academy will receive approximately £380,000 (provisional) in ‘disadvantaged’ funding. This additional financial resource will be used to help implement a series of initiatives and strategies, that will focus on helping to ensure that ‘disadvantaged’ pupils at Haughton Academy, are given the best chance to perform as well as pupils from ‘non disadvantaged’ backgrounds.

Haughton Academy has a significantly above national average percentage of pupils (51%) who are entitled to receive additional disadvantaged funding. The additional funding has enabled us to build on the strong pupil welfare support, academic guidance and high quality teaching that all of our pupils enjoy and target more intensive support to those whose pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds whose attainment and progress is weakest.
