About Us:

At Haughton Academy pupils will receive a high-quality geography education, which will inspire pupils’ curiosity and fascination about the world and its people that will remain with them for the rest of their lives. Teaching will equip pupils with knowledge about diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes.

Within Key Stage 3 Geography, our curriculum will enable pupils to study local, national and global issues in relation to human and physical geography. Pupils will discover through studying the complex and dynamically changing world, where places are, how landscapes are formed, how people and their environment interact, and how a diverse range of economies, societies and environments are interconnected. Our geography builds on pupils' own experiences to investigate places at all scales, from the personal to the global. While also exposing them to contrasting cultures, societies and landscapes, which aims to broaden their horizons, strengthen tolerance of others and foster their curiosities.

At Key Stage 4, pupils study the AQA specification, which is hugely popular at Haughton Academy. The AQA specification enables a variety of teaching and learning approaches. This exciting and relevant course studies Geography in a balanced framework of physical and human themes and investigates the link between them.

Pupils will travel the world from their classroom, exploring case studies in the United Kingdom (UK), higher income countries (HICs), newly emerging economies (NEEs) and lower income countries (LICs). Topics of study include climate change, poverty, deprivation, global shifts in economic power and the challenge of sustainable resource use. Additionally, pupils are encouraged to understand their role in society, by considering different viewpoints, values and attitudes.'
