Enterprise and Marketing

Intent:

At Haughton Academy we study Business Enterprise and Marketing to develop a wide range in our pupils.  These skills  included communication, problem solving, presenting, and project management. Enterprise students quickly learn to relate their subject knowledge to real life experiences and to use critical thinking, analysis, and evaluation to understand some of the business and marketing decisions we observe in our local, national, and international markets.  

We hope, through studying business, our students will be better prepared for adult life by being equipped to make sensible financial decisions, identify opportunities; respond to internal and external influences; and to be more discerning in the businesses they engage with.

About Us:

The Cambridge National in Enterprise and Marketing gives pupils the practical skills and applied knowledge they’ll need in business. The work is assessed internally, through coursework and externally, through an exam sat at the end of Year 10, and at present an opportunity to resit in Year 11.    

What can the qualification lead to?  

Learners who achieve at Level 2 and achieve their Level 4 and above in English and Maths might consider progression to A Levels   Study of a vocational qualification at Level 3, such as a BTEC Level 3 in Business. 

All the above prepare learners for entry to higher education in a range of subjects including BA in Business Management, BA in Marketing Management, as well as various other courses.  

Units studied are:  

Unit R064 – Externally assessed/Exam   

In this unit pupils will learn the main activities that are needed to support a start-up business and what the key factors are to consider.  Pupils will understand how and why customer segmentation is used and how to target a customer market. They will also develop an understanding of how to attract and retain customers, the techniques to use when developing products and how to investigate what makes a product viable.  

Unit R065 – Internally Assessed/Coursework  

Pupils will design a product proposal to meet a business challenge. Pupils will identify a customer profile for their own product design, develop market research tools and use these to complete market research for their product. Pupils will use their research outcomes to generate product design ideas, assess their strengths and weaknesses and work collaboratively with peers to gain feedback to inform final design decisions. They will also complete financial calculations to select a pricing strategy and determine whether their proposal is viable.  

Unit R066 – Internally Assessed/Coursework  

Pupils will create a brand identity and promotional plan for their product proposal, developed in Unit R065. They will pitch their product proposal to an external audience after completing a practice pitch, and complete a review of both their pitching skills and product proposal  

The course is graded Level 2 Pass (4), Merit (6), Distinction (7) and Distinction* (8.5)
