Mike Butler

Chief Executive and Trustee

Mike is a highly experienced Chief Executive, having led the improvement and transformational change of a wide range of schools and two multi-academy trusts, and a number of national organisations. He has worked for over two decades in the academies sector, having become one of the first Academy Principals in 2003.  Mike is also a very experienced governance leader, having acted as a school governor, Trustee (formerly of the National E-Learning Foundation and currently of Schools North East), and Chair of the Independent Academies Association, the original sector body representing academy trusts. He is currently a Member of Ascent Academies Trust, a member of the Schools North East Advisory Board, the Darlington Education Strategy Group, and the SEND Assurance Executive.
