Recruitment
Staff are The Education Village Academy Trust’s most valuable resource and we value and invest in our people.
We encourage reflective practice, classroom-based research and collaborative peer coaching because we want staff to deliver outstanding provision and to maintain a passion for learning. Wherever possible we seek to accredit the professional development work of staff. Learning from others is at the centre of our staff development provision. We are highly fortunate that our broad educational provision allows us to draw on a wealth of knowledge, enthusiasm and expertise. So we have teachers who are, for example, experts in Foundation stage learning; others who manage behaviour in an SEMH setting; some who address profound and complex needs and those qualified to deliver AS Level Chemistry.
Graduate Teaching Programme
The GTP programme is an area of which we are particularly proud. Over the past six years we have had 17 trainees, 13 of whom have been graded as outstanding by the awarding body and the programme itself has received the same grading. It is open to all non-qualified staff provided they have the academic requirements and most stay on to work in the Trust after qualifying, many to take up promoted posts. Currently this programme is only open to employees of the Trust.
The ECT Programme
The ECT (Early Careers Teacher) programme is a rich method of inducting teachers into the profession. It is designed to give them the opportunities to develop their skills and extend their knowledge of teaching procedures and pedagogy. The weekly meetings and classroom observations provide a rich source of support, encouragement and practical help to ensure that all of the new teachers are able to develop into excellent practitioners with Qualified Teacher status.
ECT+1 – we know how important it is to embed the core standards of QTS and this discrete group of colleagues support each other in sharpening and enhancing skills together with the guidance of our school-based coach.
Appraisal
Appraisal is a supportive process which sets achievable targets and details a continuing professional development plan tailored to every teacher at every stage of their career.
Effective Learning Teams
Effective Learning Teams support vibrant pedagogy and focus on various aspects of research-based learning with groups of staff feeding back on outcomes and sharing strategies to improve teaching and learning
CPD Opportunities
A programme of CPD opportunities features each academic year and is responsive to the priorities of each Academy or The Education Village Academy Trust as a whole.
Post-16 and Higher Education partners
Our post-16 and Higher Education partners (Teeside, Durham and Sunderland Universities) offer access to opportunities for developing pedagogy. We also have strong links with the Teacher Development Agency
All of our staff have access to high quality networks and highly regarded CPD through the Durham Education Development Service.
